Challenger Bus

The idea of using a converted bus as an exhibition vehicle for evangelism is nothing new. However, incorporating state-of-the-art technology and computer generated imagery into the process takes bus outreach into a new dimension, not to mention live internet connection and live satellite broadcasting.

Challengers 1 & 2 have been a part of PWAMM's outreach armoury for many years, taking the good news of Jesus Christ to where the people are. Now with the launch of Challenger 3, the Challenger Bus Ministry is moving on. What is important to the Challenger Outreach ministry is working with local congregations.

Therefore, the Challenger team will take the bus to work with congregations around the country who have a desire to see their community reached with the life-changing message of salvation through Jesus Christ.

The central idea with Challenger 3 is to take the Gospel message to today’s generation using today’s technology. With the launch of Challenger 3, the Challenger Bus Ministry is moving onIt contains five computer stations, evangelistic DVD's and computer games with a Christian theme. The upstairs area contains a coffee lounge area with a flatscreen TV, as well as a mini-cinema in the front half of the bus.

People walking past the bus are greeted with a showing of a 3D animated Gospel presentation created by the PWAMM graphics team. The pace and attitudes of modern life demonstrate that people are more inclined to stop and watch a short, powerful multimedia presentation than they are to accept and read a tract.

The effective work of the Challenger Bus ministry is expanding significantly, with the launch of Challenger 3 – a converted, modern double-deck bus. It is designed to complement the existing Bus Ministry as a high-tech, fully interactive tool in taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ into towns around the nation of Scotland.

Challenger 3 brings an entirely new dimension to the work of the outreach exhibition buses. Visitors to the new Challenger 3 will be presented with a highly professional, computer-generated, dynamic Gospel presentation. This extremely powerful production was created entirely by the PWAMM graphics team. Those who have seen the animation have been greatly touched by the moving imagery & forthright Gospel message.

One of the reports that has come back from one of the missions:

When the bus visited it was well received by the young people and teenagers with 30 people attending on the Friday night and over 100 attending the gospel event in the hall. During this time many teenagers heard the gospel and made a commitment to the Christian faith. In subsequent Friday visits the average number of youth attending the bus was around 12 with two or three making a commitment to Christianity. A few young people did express a newfound love for the gospel message.

Those who have seen the animation have been greatly touched by the moving imagery & forthright Gospel messageThis Neoplan bus underwent radical transformation (a team of men working over 3,600 hours within 6 to 7 weeks) to incorporate several impressive features designed to draw people to consider the claims of the gospel of our Lord Jesus. Team members will be able to go through a Gospel presentation pitched specifically at the age group of those they are talking to, using one of the several computers on the vehicle.

Those who are involved in evangelism will know that there are ‘frequently asked questions’ by those enquiring about our faith. These questions can be answered using prepared slides on any of the computers. Much of the material for these presentations was prepared by the Youth Group at Perth Christian Centre.

There is a mini cinema upstairs seating up to 25, complete with a 46” flat screen High Definition TV and surround sound, on which can be shown feature films with a Christian theme and message. It also incorporates Smart Board facilities.

As well as showing presentations, the on-board computers also have Bible software, Christian computer games, interactive programmes, internet access and live-streamed satellite TV. There is a coffee lounge where visitors can sit with team members to discuss aspects of the Gospel or pray, or just chat over a cup of coffee. The vehicle also comes fully equipped for doing street evangelism using ‘wireless’ mics and a powerful P.A. system.

Challenger Bus team members past and present are to be commended for their faithful work in this regard. Sometimes, even years later, it is discovered that the seed has borne lasting fruit, as we hear of testimonies of lives changed through missions of years ago. Already, the Lord has placed “His seal” on the work of Challenger 3, when it visited Skye to support a PWAMM tent mission in July ’06. Its first mission to Portree saw souls saved.

An encouraging report from a mission:

I was astonished at the commitment we received from the Challenger team who gave up their evenings to travel 40 miles out of love for Christ to deliver the gospel message to the young people.

God has faithfully used Challengers 1 and 2 over the years in the sowing of the seed of the Word. It now seems that the ministry is set to move into a new sense of vision and purpose, and even greater things are expected. The methods may be developing to match the times – but the message remains constant: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners

Already many ministers and congregations have requested the vehicle and team.
