This Saturday over 60 men enjoyed a good breakfast at the NCO Centre. This was the first men’s breakfast for a number of years, so it was good to see it return. At previous ladies breakfasts, the men were on hand to serve, so this time round the ladies returned the favour. After a short time of praise and worship, guest speaker Jay Fallon shared from God’s Word. Jay has been a friend of the ministry for over a decade, speaking at various outreach events over the years. He is originally from Glasgow and has a powerful story of Jesus delivering him from 10 years of drug addiction.
The message he shared at the breakfast was “Take a Stand”, using the biblical character Shammah to illustrate his points. Shammah was one of David’s mighty men, and in 2 Samuel 23, he is recorded as being the only one who took a stand against the enemy after everyone else fled. He stood in the middle of a field ready to fight.
Jay encouraged us to be like Shammah – to stay and fight, even if we fight alone, and even if it is difficult. He talked about the various battles that we face in the Christian life; unbelief, fear, temptation. We are to stand and fight the good fight of faith, knowing that we don’t fight alone, but that God is with us. As Shammah fought for King David, we fight for King Jesus.
